About The Fight DC
Many women suffer from the devastating effects of sex trafficking, trauma, and poverty.
At The FIGHT DC, we empower them with a holistic support system including counseling, discipleship, and practical life skills training. Our services meet both immediate needs and long-term goals, helping women heal, regain hope, and live a fulfilled life in Christ.
Story of how The Fight DC was started
Growing up in Washington, DC, I witnessed firsthand the devastating effects of poverty and the drug epidemic that ravaged the Black American community in the 80s and 90s. While working with a cops and community organization in my hometown, it became painfully clear that there was an overlooked and underserved population—women and children left to fend for themselves after decades of broken households and systemic neglect. Generations of families were caught in cycles of trauma, poverty, and vulnerability to abuse, including sex trafficking. Seeing so many women suffering from these devastating effects, we knew we had to act.
This urgency gave birth to FAST DC (Fight Against Sex Trafficking), where we began with a reach, rescue, and restore approach. We conducted outreach events to meet immediate needs, celebrated women and families with community gatherings, and built a network of partnerships to facilitate rescues and provide referrals. Our restoration efforts focused on equipping women with tools for healing, financial independence, and entrepreneurship while emphasizing the importance of a personal and authentic relationship with God.
Through this work, we saw the deeper battles women were fighting—unresolved trauma, lack of job skills, and a sense of hopelessness. The FIGHT DC was born out of the desire to address these broader issues. Today, we continue to combat the devastating effects of sex trafficking, trauma, and poverty by equipping women with the resources, relationships, and resilience they need to break free and thrive. We fight alongside them, believing every woman deserves a chance to heal, grow, and live abundantly.
Sex Trafficking in Our Community
In our community, sex trafficking doesn’t look the way it is often portrayed in the media. There isn’t a shadowy figure snatching girls and transporting them overseas. Instead, it manifests in deeply personal and devastating ways. There are mothers who, in desperation, resort to selling their children for food, shelter, or to support an addiction. There are boyfriends and spouses who abuse their partners, forcing them to serve their friends or customers for money. And there’s a growing epidemic of online exploitation, where women are betrayed by intimate partners who upload explicit content of them without consent for profit.
These realities reflect the heartbreaking and complex nature of trafficking in our community. The FIGHT DC exists to address these issues head-on, providing education, advocacy, and holistic support to help women and families heal, rebuild, and reclaim their futures. We are here to stand in the gap, fighting against exploitation in all its forms and ensuring that no woman or child is left behind.
Leadership & Staff
Andrea grew up in Northeast DC during the height of the war on drugs, facing her first fight even before birth. Her mother was strongly encouraged to abort Andrea due to her being considered past childbearing age. Raised in a dysfunctional family, violence, and substance abuse was a part of her everyday life. Being sexually abused from 8-12 years old changed her life traumatically. She felt a brokenness that she believed could never be healed. After years of silence, she turned to anger, and physical aggression as a way of coping.
As a teen mom in a toxic relationship, Andrea continued to fight, believing it was the only way to survive. Her anger led her down a destructive path. She was facing jail time for leading a female crew to commit violent robberies against men looking for sex. She was invited to a church service where God intervened. She heard a message about healing and felt God calling her to surrender her brokenness. Though her circumstances remained difficult, her heart had changed. She chose to dedicate her life to fighting for God's Kingdom, using her experiences to help those who are emotionally paralyzed by sexual trauma, underserved and in need of hope.
While Andrea holds an education from Trinity DC, she attributes her ability to do this critical work to her lived experience and the call of YAHWEH on her life, fulfilling her assignment to make disciples in her community and growing THE KINGDOM of HEAVEN!
